What we grow at Farewell
We aim to grow enough potatoes to supply the Orkney market year round using our cold storage facilities to extend the season.
Potatoes can be supplied in:
2kg, 5kg, 7.5kg, 12.5kg & 25kg paper bags.
Bakers can be supplied in either 4 or 6 packs or in larger amounts for the catering trade.
Baby potatoes are also available in any size of bag.
If you require specific varieties and/or size specifications please get in touch as we can supply whatever size fraction suits you best.
We currently grow several different varieties for ware including Maris Piper, Scapa and Halo. These crops are all grown from our own high grade seed crops to ensure we keep our high health status.
Washed Potatoes
We supply the catering trade with washed potatoes in 12.5kg or 25kg bags. This covers baby potatoes for the hotels as well as washed chipping potatoes for the burger vans who make their own fresh skin on fries.
One of our biggest weekly sellers to the shops is our Farewell Farms Peedie Tatties branded 1kg bag. Great tasting, washed tatties ready to be boiled and served.
Maris Piper
Maris Piper is one of the UK's largest varieties and continues to deliver year in year out. It produces large long oval tubers with a great taste and texture. These are ideal for mashing and baking and are also used for chipping as they have a high dry matter. Our 5kg bags of Maris Piper are our biggest weekly seller in the shops.
Scapa & Halo
Scapa is a Phureja ("fur-eka") variety. These varieties originated from Peru in the foothills of the Andes and have incredible taste and texture profiles making them a firm favorite with both professional chefs and amateur cooks alike. That have golden skins and a deep golden flesh colour. They cook very fast and will boil in 5 minutes - trust us when we say that!
Halo was bred for its taste and is a half Phureja. Its parents are Jelly (Europlant Germany) x Mayan Gold (JHI). It produces incredibly even sized tubers with excellent cooking attributes but especially for roasting. This variety is used in the "Ultimate Roaster" brand which is growing in popularity with each season.
Chipping Potatoes
We grow several different varieties suitable for chipping and already supply shops, pubs, hotels and catering outlets with large potatoes ideal for making fresh chips.
Fresh Cut Chips & Ready Prepared Potatoes
Coming Soon - Our own Farewell Farms Fresh Cut Chips & Ready Peeled Potatoes will soon be available to buy in vacuum packed bags. These fresh, ready to fry chips and ready peeled potatoes will be a convenient, time saving product for our catering customers.
